Same here. Bought a reclining sofa and reclining loveseat from Lay Z Boy in 1996 with absolutely no problems with fabric or mechanisms for 14 years.

My youngest would bounce off the end of the leg rests and jump to the floor for hours, no problem. The mechanisms were entirely made of heavy steel scissors, and each piece was very heavy, took two men to move them. The new recliners I bought in 2010, they were light as a feather, and the mechanism is already broken in one of them after six months of use. La Z Boy used to stand for quality, now they stand for poor quality and cutting corners.

They knew how to build lasting furniture, now they forgotten or don't care. Go ahead and buy if on sale and you realize they may not last more than a few years.

I have to agree. I've bought at least 4 lazyboy chairs. I bought a lazyboy couch and it's falling apart.

Lazy Boy Recliner doesn't hold up for the price

I purchased a "custom" lazy boy recliner over 2.5 years ago from the Lazy Boy store in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. I also purchased the fabric protection plan. Well just about 3 months into owning the chair, the fabric started to show every possible stain, dirt, etc. In addition the fabric actually starting to have little lint balls (not sure if that's how you describe it) all over the seat and the foot rest. I also found the chair extremely loud every time you opened it to reclin. I had Lazy Boy come out and looked at it. Everything was apparently normal wear and tear. Yeah, in 3 months. Needless to say, 2 years later the chair looks like complete ***. I paid over $800 for this chair which I find pretty expensive considering I've seen recliners in stores from other companies that look better and are several hundered dollars cheaper. When I called Customer Service 2 weeks ago they said there was nothing they could do. In fact they told me that the fabric protection plan would only repair tears or events that had recently occured. Perhaps I should take a pair of scissors to the entire chair and then they'll actually replace the fabric for me? Absurd. Oh and lastly, a local sales rep at Lazy Boy said to me that he could sell me a new one. Thanks ***.

First off, the fabric issues is called pilling and that is not a defect, its is a natural characteristic of most fabrics. you just need to shave it!

as far as the wear of the fabric/stains...

clean it! There is no fabric out there that prevents a lifetime of wear and stains.

La-z-boy furniture took 12 weeks to delivery our supposed 4 week delivery furniture!

My husband and I went into the La-Z-boy furniture store in Northridge, California. We found a set of furiture that we liked so we decided to place an order. So after ordering a sofa, chair, and ottomon, with a "custom fabric", and "custom pillows" the total came out to $3,300!! I really wanted the furniture though and hadn't found anything anywhere else so we just decided to go with it.

When we made the order, our La-Z-Boy associate (Geva) told us that it could take up to 8 weeks at the most for our furniture but most times it only takes 4. Now four weeks later we had not heard anything so we gave them a call and got the typical response that they hadn't heard anything and would give us a call in a couple of weeks with an update. So now its 6 weeks and still we haven't heard anything. So we call them again and get the same response. At this point dissapointment has set in that it's been a month and a half without our new furniture. 8 weeks rolls around and still no phone call. Now we figured that legally it had to be delivered by 8 weeks like we were told but that's not what Geva said when we called her again! She said that she would have to look into why it was taking so long and that she would get back to us but that it can take up to 12 weeks!!!!

I looked on our order form to see what the delivery rules were and sure enough in the small print it says that it can take up to 12 weeks. So now we're at 10 weeks and Geva finally calls us saying that she's not exactly sure why it's taking so long but that it should be ready any day and that there may have been a problem ordering the fabric. Now, at this point my patience has completely worn off and I've completely sworn off buying anything from La-Z-boy furniture again.

So days before the 12 week mark we finally get the call that our furniture is ready! When the delivery man brought our furniture into our home and uncovered it, of course one of our chair arms looked like it had been dragged through the dirt and had a dark dirt smear on it. The delivery man padded most of it out and said that he would order a cleaning service to come and finish cleaning it up. No one ever came and I was so fed up with the company that I never called. We also never got a call from our lovely helper Geva asking how our furniture was.

Overall it was extremely expensive for the *** service we got and because of it I will never use them or recommend them again! What a frustrating experience!!!!!

Our recliner is over 6 months now, delivery in January 2022. It takes longer to make a Lazyboy recliner than it does to build a house!

Guest

I just ordered 2 recliners, and after I ordered them it said delivery would be 4-6 MONTHS They have got to be kidding. How can they stay in buisness???

Guest

I purchase a sectional from Lazy Boy back in mid November 2017. They told me it would be delivered in six to eight weeks.

It is now April and I have not received my sectional sofa as of yet. Every time I call I get a different excuse.

Guest

Did anyone get ahold of the BBB to address there concerns it gets you more "customer service " than at Lay-Z-Boy who doesn't even know what customer service is!!!!

Guest

We are currently at week #18, waiting for a leather couch, and we have been told it will be another 3 or 4 weeks before it would be delivered. We were originally told by our salesperson 6-8 weeks. I would not custom order anything from Lay-Z-Boy at the present time.

Guest

We are going on 16 weeks and now being told the accent pillows fabric is no longer available. And we have to wait 4 more weeks. I am not a happy customer.

Guest

Oh you had to wait 12 weeks.. how terrible.. what a brat.

Guest

I ordered from a Lazy Boy store and was told 12 weeks. Ok.

I guess I can wait because I loved it. Well at the 12 week (3 months) mark I call and they said another 2 months!!!!!

What??? This is crazy do people really wait 5 months for furniture?????

Guest

Your right. I ordered two side chairs and a couch.

Yesterday I revieved my chairs no couch. My rep doesn't know where it is.

It's been 13 weeks and I paid close to 3 thousand. I am very frustrated.

Guest

I am so glad I read this. I was on my way today to purchase a sofa and recliner

from the store in Agoura. i will be looking at other furniture store today.

Thanks!

Laz y boy they do not stand behind their customer service or warranties.

I contacted Laz y boy to order a part for a laz y boy sofa. never mind that there was supposedly a lifetime warranty on this sofa, but I had to pay for the part and the shipping and do the installation myself. However after I placed my order for the part and gave my credit card number i never received it. I made a follow up call and left a message (as instructed) because they were too busy to handle calls. Never got a call back. I called again and got disconnected after a 15 minute wait (I was timing it on my phone) I then got to Holly and was understandably angry by that time. Holly cannot handle an angry customer- I guess thats not what customer service reps are for, and she disconnected me intentionally. Do not buy from Laz y Boy. If its too late and you are already saddled with a broken Laz y boy and you must call customer service, ask for someone else to help you besides Holly. She's passive aggressive.

No sales invoice

Lazy Boy Furniture Gallery, westside Albuquerque, NM. After three trips to the store, they still cannot produce an accurate, itemized sales invoice. They refuse to refund my money even though they cannot document what I have attempted to purchase. Whenever I go into the store, the person "who does that" is not working. I typically go on Sunday afternoon when I'm not at work during the week. I called today to try to fix the situation, but no managers are working. All my interactions with the sales and management team are either incomplete or inaccurate. Now they are falling back onto a no refund with special orders - but they can't get the paperwork correct and complete.

La Z Boy Scam Guardsman Protection Plan

I am a La Z Boy employee and I have to say I can't do this job much longer because of ripping off customers I can't sleep at night.I'm not even sure they really apply such product from what I've seen and heard. To makes matters worse the fabrics are very cheap and high priced in the custom order fabrics.

They push and push sales people to sell the Very High Profit so called product.

They push and push because they get nice bonus for these. I haven't found one good article about the Guardsman Protection Plan " NONE!"

I also worked for Lazboy and my employment there at the warehouse in New Castle, DE was a very negative situation. Was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis from the toxic chemicals they used there, and part of it is the protectant they sprayed on the furniture!!

Has xylene, benzene, and other nasty stuff ...

I am with you Bodsworth, and let me commend you on your honesty ... my works comp case is in the Supreme Court in DE

Guest

Why do you think their stores go though so many employees because the realize the bad business practices La Z Boy does

Rose M Lpg

Thanks for your input. At very least it will prompt a consumer to ask more questions about the motivation behind the product.

Guest

Wish I read this before I purchased the plan AND let them clean my chair. The fabric has discolored due to the cleaning and my claim has been denied.

They determined that it should have been noticed sooner but that side of the cushion was turned down and only recently did I flip the cushion.

Hope Ethan Allen has a better response.

I purchased a LazyBoy sofa and love seat, paid the premium for the stain resistant treatment but I have to say NEVER AGAIN will I have anything to do with Lazy Boy furniture. In only two years, my wife and I have grown to hate this *** junk they call furniture. Over $2200.00 wasted.

Now I will have to buy something else cause every time I look at this junk I get pissed off.

La Z Boy sectional - Sinclair

Had a new sectional delivered 3 months ago, and the smell is overwhelming. I notice it at the top of the stairs, and I can't get used to it by spending time in that room.

I am not normally squeemish or odor sensitive, but this odor makes me feel a little sick. Brought the cushion back to the store in a plastic bag so they could check. The clerk said it would take a little while longer to go away. That was 6 weeks ago, and it smells as strong as the day it arrived.

I've purchased other sofas, chairs, and mattresses from other stores a few months before and also since and they have no odor to speak of. Not sure what to do. I am not pleased, as this is our family room and no one can stand to go in it.

Oh yes, and I paid over $2200. I called last week, and am still waiting response.

toxic chemicals are used at Lazboy .. I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis the toxic fumes used at Lazboy when I worked there ..

be careful .. xylene, toluene, ethel benzene, formaldahyde etc ...

nasty stuff ... of course Lazboy hired a so called doctor to say that the list of more than 20 toxic chemicals didn't do it ....

Guest

Having exact same problem with new recliner. Noticed smell in store in Emeryville CA but didn't think our purchase would have same smell - like a vacuum bag.

We are trying to solve via air out but area days in we still have the problem.

We wonder if there is something toxic here of course. Buyer beware!

Guest

I bought a leather recliner from Lazy Boy 6 months ago (to use for nursing my baby-yeah right!) and it still smells so strong it gives me a headache! Keep me posted on the lawsuit!

Guest

The sofa and loveseat that was delivered last week smells like a "dirty vacuum cleaner bag that needs to be changed". I don't know how else to describe it.

I don't know if it's the fabric, cushions or the wood (particle board?) frame. I can't sit on it, let alone relax because of the smell. Febreze doesn't work, leaving all of the windows open doesn't work.

It just stinks. I hate to think I have to live with this furniture.

Guest

The foam or poly has not cured properly. This is a common fault. The store should take responsibility if within one year of purchase.

Guest

Higgi, I too purchased a family room sofa from La Z Boy in Northern Virginia in Feb 2011 and it has a terrible smell that is still as strong as the day we received the sofa. I was told to air out the room, use Fabreeze, all of which I have done and still it smells.

La Z Boy told me the odor would disappear in a few weeks. It has been two months and it still smells. It has made us sick with headaches, coughing, and sore throats. Don't know what to do because they will not take the sofa back, we are losing $1,000 that we paid for this awful sofa, and we cannot use our family room.

I can't even give this sofa away to anyone because my conscience would bother me. Maybe all of us that received furniture with a strong odor should file a suit against La Z Boy for selling furniture that can make people ill!

Lazy boy guarentee a sham

two recliners from lazy boy and both with the same spring problem - broken Phoned number for repairs, got into problem having to dial number again and push pound key which got me back to the begining. Got through to debbie through store phone number but they wanted information from the bottom of the chair and I have back troubles!!! I was told they could send a technician out at cost to make what is supposed to be a lifetime guarantee for the chair. Two chairs broken in the same way, and their support - life time - is a crock. Never again!

Lazy Boy Furniture Galleries is an Appropriate name. Failed to respond to service requests

Lazy Boy Furniture Galleries did not respond to many service requests a few years ago when my new Lazy Boy style chair and half and couch stuffing were not to my satisfaction. The repairman told me back then that Lazy Boy had changed their parts supplier from an American company to a Chinese company and that I would notice the poor quality of the furniture. It took three months to get two pillows stuffed.

Now it has been one month since my email to them telling them that my chair back needs repair with no repsonse. I have followed up with several phone calls only to get voice mail.

I thought I had finally arrived in life when I was able to buy a Lazy Boy chair I wish I knew about the dismal service record. Don't buy from Lazy Boy Furniture Galleries.

Never again

We are a household of two adults, no children and animals are not allowed on furniture. In addition, we have very few sleepovers. Three years ago, we purchased a Lazy Boy sleeper couch. We paid over $1,000 for this couch. Within a year, the cushions broke down and the fabric started to break down by "pilling" all over. I have owned and sold Lazy Boy furniture in the past. It used to have an excellent reputation for wear and tear and durability. Not any more!!!!! We have since given the sleeper couch to my son, who is in college, because it was not worth selling. I would never again purchase or recommend purchase of a Lazy Boy piece of furniture.

Never buy from lazboy

In 4/08 I spent 4000.00 on a couch from lazboy thinking I was going with a company with a name and good standing. Boy was I wrong. Within a year and a couple months the frame broke. They wanted about 180.00 to pick up and bring back the couch plus 60.00 an hour to fix the problem. Now 2 years into this the material is ripping and I can only wonder what they will charge me to fix that. I will never buy from them again and would sway anyone thinking on doing the same. Remeber to check the fine print in your warrany service. I know I should of.

Don't go near a Lay Z Boy store - They are over priced and definitely don't extend customer service past the sales point. The deal is done the product delivered and the customer service concept dies.

There is no such thing as customer service. After several months I have a problem with the recliner. Service there is no such thing.

And they blame that on the vendors they contract with. I hope to watch the company go into a decline and I hope I can help get it there.

LazyBoy and Jenner's Furniture - az

After being released from ICU for Back Injury... I phoned Jenners for a LIFT Chair.... Deal was conducted by phone, considering I was unable to travel. This was a Lazy Boy Floor Model - for $1117.00 !! -- sign unseen. The sales agent assured me that it would FIT my body - 5' 7". Which it DID NOT !! #1 Chair was delivered next day --- Controller was broken ... The following day they delivered a new controller. Chair seat is uncomfortable - feels like I'm sitting in hole.. and the back does not fit my body ! My feet HANG off the footrest area. After approx. 2 weeks of trying to get used to the feel of this miserable chair,... I called the Co.... explained the problem... and requested to return the chair and replace with another brand. #2 - Called again ... since the "office manager" had not returned my call, as promised .... and was told that "since the chair had been in my home for approx. 2 wks,... they could not take it back,... as they do not have a Retail License for USED furniture --- and would have to DONATE it, .... could not sell it ?? Pretty sleezy way of doing business. !!!! I cannot recommend ANY Lazy Boy Products.... . They're poorly constructed .. and of inferior quality, besides being HIGHLY over rated and priced !!! Do NOT deal with JENNER'S FURNITURE, Fort Mohave, AZ They could care LESS about customers' satisfaction AFTER the sale . Once you Pay ... you're screwed !!! Bonnie Bashor, Laughlin, NV
