We recently experienced the same thing. My mother in law with our monetary help purchased a SlumberAir Mattress with pump for our sofa in our vacation home in the Poconos.

A home we only visit for maybe 2-3 weeks in the Summer months and maybe a couple of weekends throughout the other seasons. In addition, the sofa with the pump was only used for additional unexpected guests. Thus not regularly used. I would argue we have used it about the same amount of times of six (6) give or take.

However, when we were setting up for our guest this past Labor Day Week into the weekendโ€”-the pump would not work. My elderly mother in law refused to believe her beloved mattress and pump was not working, since she has always been a die hard patron of LaZBoy. She became further inflamed when she saw the price online at 250$โ€”-especially after what we had paid initiallyโ€”- it wasnโ€™t cheap. My husband and I helped her pay for it because it was a LaZBoy product, and firmly believed it was worth the money because such a reputable company would definitely stick behind its claim of having โ€œrigorous quality control procedures for ALL its furniture.โ€ So much so that LaZBoy Inc.

claims its products, โ€œstands the test of time...โ€ As a generation X er I would have, probably should have searched a little deeper though it wasnโ€™t necessary to go that deep to find many complaints with regard to the pump being defective. Unfortunately, we decided to make my mother in law happy and let her stay with LaZBoy. I say this because when we called LaZBoy on 8/24/19 to ask about our warranty and replacement, we were informed by the representative that we would only have to cover shipping and handling and tax but that the pump was covered under the 5 year warranty. The representative further stated that someone would call us on Monday 8/26/19 with the information to receive the replacement.

We were pleased with this information and waited for a call. We did not hear from them til Tuesday 8/27/19 not the 26th as promised. Nonetheless, we were prepared to receive the replacement under warranty as per the representative we spoke to on the 24th. Now keep in mind, Labor Day Weekend with the entire family is the next weekend so we are trying to get the pump in time to accommodate our guests.

Unfortunately, the gentlemen representative that called on 8/27/19 and a Supervisor stated we were given the wrong information and that the pump was only under a 1 year warranty not included in the 5 year for the mattress. We were not pleased with the fact that we were given one expectation and information then given another. This just showed that the initial representative was just as unaware as us, of the the separation of the coverage. Since when would the pump be considered separate from the mattress?

I found a review from 6/2014 on this site where the woman stated she had no problem receiving a replacement for a bladder and valve for her mattress free of charge as all parts were covered under her 5 year warranty. I would say of course she did because the mattress canโ€™t function without a functional bladder and/or valve. That goes the same for the air mattress that can only inflate and function with a functioning pump. Thereโ€™s no mattress without air from the pump to initiate the innerspring base and cushion โ€˜of airโ€™.

Come on LaZBoy? Further, your site claims โ€œThe individual components โ€”- frames, cushions, sofa bed TRANSFORMATION MECHANISMS are made out of high end materials, and are covered by the Limited Lifetime Warranty.โ€ The pump is a transformation mechanism. Plus your warranty is an oxymoron. This in itself is misleading.

I would have to agree with the other comment alleging you LaZBoy Inc. are aware of this flawed design in the pump and expect it to go shortly after a year (extremely limited warranty?) and thus are making a profit from this. How can a lump that is rarely used go so quickly? Moreover, why a one year and a five year warranty?

The five year indicates belief in its product while a separate 1 year of just one piece is suspect to say the least. Read between the lines. Sadly, itโ€™s only loyal customers like my mother in law who are paying the heavy price of dealing with such companies. I personally do not see the need in paying such high prices for furniture in the day and age of the internet and price matches.

So my mother in law against my support decided to pay for the pump after such poor treatment from a company she has been so loyal too. I am posting this to save others from purchasing this SlumberAir Mattress with a pump and stick to traditional mattresses that have great deals and return policies. Not worth the money or headache we have experienced.

I believe LaZBoy will continue to lose past and future customers if the ill misleading warranty strategies they are currently using are not re- examined and replaced with clear and fair policies. #notaLaZBoyFan
